The Festival will feature recognized international composers, with music performances and screenings, including a viewing of Crash, with a special introduction from Mark Isham, the film’s composer.

Mark Isham’s trumpet performance with Carles Cases’ Band at last year’s International Film Music Festival impacted everyone from fans to the organization, leading to his appointment as Honorary President of the festival. Isham has long been celebrated for his musical contributions to film and television, receiving several awards, including a Grammy and an Emmy as well as Oscar and Golden Globe Nominations. Isham has collaborated with leading directors including Robert Redford and Frank Marshall. Isham’s compositions for notable films include Crash, The Black Dahlia, and A River Runs Through It. Most recently, he scored the family film Dolphin Tale, and the drama Warrior, for which he won the Hollywood Music in Media Award for “Best Score.” Isham’s current projects include ABC’s #1 new drama Once Upon A Time, created by Lost writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, for which he records weekly with a full orchestra and vocalists to achieve the distinguished cinematic vibe. He is also currently scoring the feature Upside Down, and will be returning this fall to score Once Upon A Time, and the new series Beauty and the Beast.

Blake Neely’s contribution to the tribute of Michael Kamen at last year’s International Film Music Festival made for an emotional performance, and he further impressed the organization with his professionalism and interest, making him an obvious choice for Musical Director of the festival. Neely’s accolades include an Emmy Nomination and the 2011 GoldSpirit Award for Best Theme, The Pacific. Next month, Neely’s music can be heard on USA Network’s mini-series Political Animals, and this fall on the CW’s new DC Comics series Arrow, both produced by Greg Berlanti, for whom Neely has scored over a dozen of series. He also returns for the sixth season of The Mentalist.

TREVOR MORRIS to attend film music festival in CÒRDOBA, SPAIN

EMMY-WINNING COMPOSER TREVOR MORRIS TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS SUMMER’S INTERNATIONAL FILM MUSIC FESTIVAL IN CÒRDOBA, SPAIN,

Morris Will Conduct His Own Music during Two Concerts and Participate in a Workshop for Young Aspiring Musicians

LOS ANGELES, May 31, 2012 – Film and television composer Trevor Morris – fresh off his 2011 Emmy and Gemini award wins – will head to Córdoba, Spain for this summer’s Festival Internacional de Música de Cine, i.e. The Cordoba International Film Music Festival (formerly International Film Music Festival City of Ubeda) at the end of June!  At the Festival, guests and fans from all over the world gather to celebrate music composed for film and television in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  The Festival will include several symphony concerts featuring last year's best scores and classic scores.  http://festivaldecordoba.com

Additionally, Trevor just finished 2 TV movies/pilots, one called "Gotham" for director Francis Lawrence, who was recently announced as the director of the next "Hunger Games" film, as well as "666 Park Avenue," starring Vanessa Williams, Dave Annable, and Terry O'Quinn.    He is among a select group of prolific composers who earned coveted guest spots in the festival, which runs from June 25 through July 1.  Formerly held in Úbeda, this year marks the festival’s debut in its new home of Córdoba.

Morris will conduct his music live during two concerts – “The Best of the Year” on Friday, June 29, and “The Best of the Best,” on Saturday, June 30. He will also participate in a guest lecture for young musicians, a panel followed by a Q&A for fans, and an exclusive CD signing.

“I’m honored to be a part of this cultural event that celebrates what I love to create most, film music,” Morris said. “Having enjoyed the chance to work on several international-based projects in my career, Spain will be an ideal place to celebrate with colleagues and teach those eager to learn how to score for film and television.”

Otherwise known as the International Film Music Festival of Córdoba, the weeklong event has become the largest European conference for film music festivals, held for its former seven years in Úbeda, Spain. To date, this year’s guests will also include composers Mark Isham (ABC’s “Once Upon A Time”); Blake Neely (ABC’s “Pan Am”); Chris Young (New World Pictures’ “Hellraiser”); Roque Baños (Paramount Classics’ “The Machinist”); Lucas Vidal (Rogue’s “The Raven”); Carles Cases (Miramax’s “The Nameless”); and Richard Bellis (ABC’S miniseries “It”).

Morris is a multiple Emmy and Gemini Award winner for his work on Showtime’s “The Borgias,” “The Tudors,” and Starz Entertainment’s “The Pillars of the Earth.” He is once again scoring music for “The Borgias,” currently in its second season. His scores can also be heard on NBC’s “The Firm”; Relativity’s action-packed film, “Immortals”; Fox Atomic’s “The Hills Have Eyes”; Columbia and Warner Bros pictures’ “Something’s Gotta Give”; Anchor Bay’s “Beautiful Boy”; NBC’s “The Chase”; and CBS’ “Moonlight” and “Miami Medical,” among many others.

Upcoming projects for Morris include: Lionsgate’s “Fire with Fire,” starring Bruce Willis, Josh Duhamel, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rosario Dawson and 50 Cent; and Universal 1440 Entertainment’s “Death Race 3,” starring Danny Trejo and Ving Rhames.

Listen to the first samples from JAMES NEWTON HOWARD's - SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN (2012)

The movie could be a total win or total loss, with the Twilight babe going all-Gladiator on us, but surely the scoring aspect is more interesting, at least on paper: James Newton Howard. His last 2 years might not be exactly the best, but the samples are promising. Listen and judge for yourself:

JESPER KYD doing the score for DARKSIDERS II - Listen for yourself!

Whilst the first DarkSiders got a very, ehem, dark and agressive score by the likes of Michael Reagan and Chris Velasco, the 2nd installment in the series of video games seems to be getting the more ethereal, atmospheric and at parts - melodic, treatment by Jesper Kyd (Hitman, Assasin's Creed, etc). Read the press release and listen for yourself at:

And at his official page:
http://www.jesperkyd.com/music/darksiders-2/

Jesper Kyd has crafted the original score for DARKSIDERS II, the sequel to the critically acclaimed action/adventure title developed by THQ’s in-house studio Vigil Games. Kyd’s emotionally dynamic score for DARKSIDERS II combines dark ethereal themes and melodic fantasy that enrich the player’s cinematic journey through each of the game’s unique realms. Jesper Kyd commented, “DARKSIDERS II is an awesome game and one of the most fun and creatively satisfying projects I have scored. I had a blast working with the team at Vigil.”
“It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Jesper,” said Jeremy Robins, Audio Director at Vigil Games. “He’s an extremely talented composer and an avid gamer, who not only created an amazing soundtrack for DARKSIDERS II, but intuitively knew how to cater each composition to achieve maximum musical impact for players.”
Darksiders II follows the exploits of DEATH, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in a weaving tale that runs parallel to the events in the original Darksiders game. This epic journey propels DEATH through various light and dark realms as he tries to redeem his brother WAR, the horseman who was blamed for prematurely starting the Apocalypse in Darksiders. Darksiders II is set for release in August 2012. For more information on DARKSIDERS II visit www.darksiders.com.

Howard Shore: Cosmopolis (2012)

The sparkling, not-so-manly, vampire from Twilight is doing his best (and hardest) to escape from the afore-mentioned franchise's hell so this time he works with...wait for it.....David Cronenberg! Cosmopolis is their new project together and (not surprisingly for Cronenberg), HOWARD SHORE composers. Here's some info on the upcoming score CD release, from amazon:

The soundtrack for Cosmopolis reunites composer Howard Shore and the band METRIC for another cinematic collaboration. While writing the score for David Cronenberg's film adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel Cosmopolis, Shore conceived of a particular live sound to achieve his vision and invited METRIC to perform the score and co-write three songs. The music was recorded in November 2011 at the band's own Giant Studios in Toronto, produced by Howard Shore and METRIC guitarist Jimmy Shaw, and mixed by John O'Mahony at Liberty Studios in Toronto and Electric Lady Studios in NYC. The result is an atmospheric, urban soundscape of analog synths and layered guitars featuring the hypnotic vocals of METRIC lead singer Emily Haines. The Cosmopolis soundtrack also features Mecca by Somali Singer/Rapper K'NAAN with lyrics by the artist and Don DeLillo.

COSMOPOLIS
A Film by David Cronenberg
Starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Mathieu Amalric, Samantha Morton, and Paul Giamatti

Here's the link for you to audition the upcoming release:

MARC STREITENFIELD's PROMETHEUS (score CD, 2012)

Whilst he hasn't quite proven himself so far and to be honest, besides the incredibly and surprisingly good THE GREY, none of his previous works were of any particular interest (well except for BODY OF LIES, maybe), still this is perhaps the most awaited film of the year and the score that accompanies it couldn't get any less attention. For a moment there, some weeks back, there was a slight confusion (and some happiness for some fans, despair for others) that Harry Gregson Williams was to take over and replace Marc on the job; at the end, HGW only provides additional music for the feature. Fortunately? Time will tell. We cannot wait to hear it however!

Composer Pino Donaggio To Receive World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award

The music of award-winning composer James Newton Howard will be celebrated in concert at the 12th World Soundtrack Awards, which will be held at the Kuipke Events Centre in Ghent on Saturday, October 20th.  Howard is one of the most versatile and respected film music composers currently working in film.  A program of his impressive music will be performed by the renowned Brussels Philharmonic and be accompanied by select film clips.  The concert will be conducted by both Howard and Dirk Brossé.

In addition, composer Pino Donaggio will be receiving the World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award at the event.  A selection of his work will also be performed at the concert.

The World Soundtrack Awards was established by the Ghent Film Festival’s World Soundtrack Academy in 2001.  The World Soundtrack Awards has emerged in the last decade as a top honour for film composers.  Known as the world’s premiere festival for celebrating and honouring film music, the Ghent Film Festival is celebrating its 39th year and runs October 9 – 20.

Howard most recently scored the blockbuster film The Hunger Games. His credits include King Kong, The Sixth Sense, The Fugitive and Pretty Woman, among many others

James Newton Howard has received eight Oscar® nominations, including six for “Best Original Score” for his work in Defiance (’08), Michael Clayton (’07), The Village (’04), My Best Friend’s Wedding (’97), The Fugitive (’93) and The Prince of Tides (’91). Moreover, he was nominated twice for “Best Original Song” for his work for the films One Fine Day (’96) and Junior (’94).

In 2009, Howard won a Grammy Award along with Hans Zimmer for their score for The Dark Knight.

In 2008 he was crowned “Film Composer of the Year” at the World Soundtrack Awards for his score for Charlie Wilson’s War, Michael Clayton and I Am Legend.

Howard boasts a portfolio with over 100 film scores, including seven films by director M. Night Shyamalan (The Last Airbender, The Happening, Lady in the Water, The Village, Signs, Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense), six films directed by Lawrence Kasdan (Darling Companion, Dreamcatcher, Mumford, French Kiss, Wyatt Earp and Grand Canyon), seven films starring Julia Roberts (Larry Crowne, Duplicity, Charlie Wilson’s War, America’s Sweethearts, Runaway Bride, My Best Friend’s Wedding and Pretty Woman) and three animated films for Walt Disney Studios (Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Dinosaur).

Howard’s work also includes Green Lantern, Water for Elephants, Gnomeo & Juliet, Salt, King Kong, Batman Begins, Vertical Limit, Snow Falling on Cedars, A Perfect Murder, The Devil’s Advocate, Waterworld, Outbreak, and the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman and The Bourne Legacy.

Donaggio is a frequent collaborator of director Brian De Palma and has scored the filmmaker’s Carrie, Home Movies, Dressed To Kill, Blow Out, Body Double and Raising Cain.  Donaggio will also be scoring De Palma’s upcoming feature Passion.  His other credits include Don’t Look Now directed by Nicolas Roeg, Trauma directed by Dario Argento and The Howling directed by Joe Dante.  The Italian composer gained early recognition in Italy for his work as a singer and songwriter.

The Ghent Film Festival and its long-lasting partner, the Brussels Philharmonic, have expressed their passion for music organising prestigious film music concerts over the years in collaboration with the in-house composer and Music Director Dirk Brossé. This collaboration has put top-notch composers including Ennio Morricone, Elmer Bernstein, John Williams, Howard Shore, Angelo Badalamenti, John Barry and Hans Zimmer in the spotlight.

This collaboration grew into an international success and even resulted in Howard Shore turning to the Brussels Philharmonic for the recording of the score for Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, which was awarded a Golden Globe. The Oscar-winning recording of the soundtrack of The Artist is another major highlight.

In addition to this, the Ghent Film Festival and the Brussels Philharmonic have recorded five CDs. The “For The Record” series is a collection of the most beautiful film music by composers Craig Armstrong (Romeo + Juliet, Love Actually), Mychael Danna (Little Miss Sunshine, Capote), Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet), Shigeru Umebayashi (2046, House of Flying Daggers) and Gabriel Yared (The Talented Mr. Ripley, The English Patient). CLINT MANSELL's latest score, LAST NIGHT (2012, cd)

Info from squidoo:

One of the most compelling songs that most people want to know about on the Last Night Soundtrack is a collaboration with composer Clint Mansell and vocals from "Not at Home" by Peter Broderick on "The Final Movement" of the Last Night O.S.T..

The original version is a bit faster than the re-workedNot at Home on the movie's Soundtrack to Last Night. The tempo on the movie's background music is languidly paced, with Broderick singing his vocals over Mansell's piano track, giving it a kind of lucidity and enhanced melancholy.Previously there was no official soundtrack release for the movie Last Night, but it was reported by Film Music Reporter & The Playlist that a soundtrack of Clint Mansell's Last Night Score will be released March 27, 2012 and Mansell will be performing live with the Sonus Quartet in conjunction with the release. See details below. In the meantime, if you're entranced by the song, download the original Peter Broderick version albeit slightly different or watch the movie now available on DVD.The romantic drama Last Night with the good looking cast of Keira Knightly, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes & Guillaume Canet poses the tantalizing question -- do you love the one you're with? What about re-visiting an old flame? Or a new possibility?Last Night was released worldwide with a splashy Italian premiere followed by a theatrical run across Europe then Asia. Perhaps producers thought European and overseas audiences would be more accepting of a movie about a couple flirting with infidelity before risking a limited release in the U.S. May 6, 2011. The Manhattan based romantic drama directed by Massy Tadjedin is now available to watch instantly online & was released on DVD August 2, 2011.
