Listen to SEAN CALLERY's awarded main title from "HOMELAND"

Emmy Award-Winning Composer Sean Callery, mostly known for his hit-tv work "24", is currently nominated for his 12th Emmy Award, for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for his new score: Showtime's "Homeland," the 2012 Golden Globe-winning and nine-time Emmy-nominated drama. This nomination makes Callery one of the top 3 most Emmy-nominated television composers.

On Homeland: This particular main title for "Homeland" was a challenge for Callery, as he had to compose and arrange the music to best poke through the complex layers of sound effects and dialogue in a very powerful way.  Sean had played jazz piano all through college, so he was thrilled to be able to play on the track and have the jazz language infused throughout the series.  He is currently writing original music for its second season, which will premiere Sept. 30, 2012.

Other Awards: Known for composing suspense-driven scores on FOX’s hit series “24,” Callery earned 9 Emmy nominations throughout the course of the show, which ran for 8 seasons and also included the 2008 TV movie “24: Redemption.”  Of those nods, he won Emmys for Outstanding Music Composition 3 times.  In 2011, Callery scored another Emmy nomination for “The Kennedys,” an eight-part mini-series that starred Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes, and premiered worldwide on the Reelz Channel.  In 1993, Callery was a sound editor on UPN’s “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” which was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Sound Editing for a Series.
Sean's Credit list: Callery’s other TV projects include: CBS' drama "Medium," FOX’s popular show "Bones," which is about to enter its eighth season, USA Network's "La Femme Nikita," FOX’s “The Finder,” Hulu’s 10-part series “The Confession,” CBS’ “Shark,” NBC’s “Treasure Hunters,” and many others.  Callery has also composed music for the 2011 Tibetan film documentary, "Crazy Wisdom: The Life and Times of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche."  In addition to “Homeland,” Callery is scoring the independent film “Small Time,” directed and written by Surnow.
Sean at the 2012 Fimucite International Film Music festival on the Canary Islands, Spain: Callery has conducted his own works, most recently with the Tenerife Film Orchestra and Choir at the Fimucite International Film Music festival on the Canary Islands, Spain. He also has three soundtrack albums featuring music from the "24" series and is working on soundtracks for both "The Kennedys" and for "Homeland."  In May 2012, Callery participated in the NYU/ASCAP Foundation Film Scoring Workshop in Memory of Buddy Baker, a composer who scored many of Walt Disney’s films. Callery was a featured composer who spearheaded the workshop dedicated to Hollywood film scoring.

ANTON SANKO - The possession (2012)

Familiar subject but with a different twist this time and produced by Sam Raimi, the movie and score could be interesting; Anton Sanko has done some pretty good scoring in the past for  "Rabbit Hole" and "Fear itself". Let's see!

LIONSGATE RECORDS RELEASING MOTION PICTURE SCORE
FOR OLE BORNEDAL’S “THE POSSESSION” ON AUGUST 28, 2012

ORIGINAL SCORE BY ANTON SANKO

SANTA MONICA, CA (August 23, 2012)- LIONSGATE® (NYSE: LGF) Records is thrilled to present "The Possession: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack,” with music by award-winning composer Anton Sanko.  The film’s electrifying score will be available exclusively through iTunes on August 28, 2012.  Produced by horror master Sam Raimi along with Robert Tapert and J.R. Young and masterfully directed by Ole Bornedal, the film opens nationwide August 31st.

“I was very excited to have the opportunity to work with Ole Bornedal - a director I have the utmost respect for - on THE POSSESSION,” says Sanko. “I had the occasion to write everything from grand sweeping themes for a giant orchestra to an obsessive meditation on a single piano note. I wanted the score to be an integral part of the storytelling, yet still have a life of its own, using whatever means necessary to achieve those goals.”

Said Lionsgate’s Head Of Film Music Tracy McKnight of the label’s relationship with Sanko,  which began with his critically acclaimed score for RABBIT HOLE and continues with THE POSSESSION, “Anton’s music once again evokes the pain of parents who are dealing with an immense struggle and facing the potential loss of their beloved daughter. His powerful score helps drive the many thrilling moments in the film as it floods your body with an array of emotions, from tension and desperation to sheer terror.”

Composer Anton Sanko is a seasoned industry veteran who has scored the award winning television series Big Love in addition to over 25 films. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Individual Achievement in A Craft:  Music and Sound Award at the 32nd Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards for his score to the seven-part television event “Great Migrations” (National Geographic). Sanko has collaborated with artists such as Grammy nominee Suzanne Vega, Jim Carroll, Anna Domino, among others.

ABOUT THE POSSESSION

Based on a true story, THE POSSESSION is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil.

Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a Dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan (WATCHMEN) and Kyra Sedgwick (“The Closer”), THE POSSESSION is directed by Ole Bornedal (NIGHTWATCH), written by Juliet Snowden & Stiles White, and produced by horror master Sam Raimi along with Robert Tapert and J.R. Young. A Lionsgate and Ghost House Pictures presentation.

LORNE BALFE's new project: "Harry’s Mountain Heroes" (2012)

LORNE BALFE’S TACKLES MOUNT EVEREST WITH LATEST PROJECT

Walking With The Wounded-Everest Documentary "Harry’s Mountain Heroes" to Air on ITV1

(August 23, 2012- Los Angeles, CA) Composer Lorne Balfe (Ironclad, Assassins Creed Revelations video game) is proud to announce the television debut of Harry’s Mountain Heroes (airing on ITV1 on August 27th).

After facing life-changing injuries, a team of five soldiers who were wounded on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan took on one of the world’s toughest challenges: to scale the imposing Mt Everest.

“Harry's Arctic Heroes was the first documentary I did in connection with the Walking with the Wounded Charity,” said Balfe.  “Watching their stories, I began to really realize how fortunate we all are. The challenges these soldiers face in life, let alone the unfathomable tasks they set for themselves in attempting to climb Mount Everest, are for me unimaginable. Being able to contribute to this fantastic documentary and such an important cause has been a wonderful opportunity.”

Lorne Balfe is a Grammy award- winning film composer from Inverness, Scotland.  Lorne is known for composing the scores to the Dreamworks' animation Megamind, and Ron Howard's film The Dilemma, in collaboration with Academy Award- winning composer, Hans Zimmer.  In addition to being recognized for producing two of Zimmer’s Oscar- nominated scores, Sherlock Holmes and Inception, Lorne has also received significant recognition for his work in the United Kingdom.  In 2009, Lorne was nominated for the Discovery of the Year World Soundtrack Award for his score for BAFTA award- winning Crying With Laughter and he was nominated for the prestigious Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Award.

Balfe began his career in Hollywood providing additional music on several major motion pictures, including: the Pirates of the Caribbean II, and III, The Simpsons Movie, Angels & Demons, Iron Man, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Frost/Nixon.  Complimented by his additional music, Balfe’s role as a score producer on 2008's The Dark Knight earned Lorne a Grammy™ for "Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture."

Balfe’s film and TV projects include the British made film, Ironclad, the TV anthology Five (directed by Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Keys, Demi Moore, Patty Jenkins, and Penelope Spheeris) and the Ron Howard-produced Imagin8ion (directed by Bryce Howard).  His work can also be heard in the video games Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed Revelations (featuring main theme, cutscenes & multiplayer music by Balfe) and Skylanders: Giants.  Balfe’s upcoming projects include Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed III, the thriller The Frozen Ground (starring Nicolas Cage and John Cusack) and Not Another Happy Ending (starring Karen Gillian).

Harry’s Mountain Heroes is a 90-minute documentary following the soldiers training in the UK with Prince Harry as they prepare to take on Everest and to overcome their physical disabilities as a team. Set against the stunning backdrop of the world’s highest mountain range you will see them as they trek, train and acclimatize for their longed for summit attempt. You will watch them as they climb up the deadliest part of the mountain; the infamous Khumbu icefall and as the expedition is eventually cancelled due to a combination of bad weather and extreme danger on the slopes above. And although their attempt this year failed, they have gained strength and learned valuable lessons that will help them all as they face life back in civvy Street again.

“Alexis Girardet, [director of Harry's Arctic Heroes and Harry's Mountain Heroes], has been wonderful to work with,” said Balfe. “His passion and enthusiasm for portraying the day-to-day lives of these soldiers shines through in the incomparable story-telling of these documentaries.”

Harry’s Mountain Heroes airs on August 27th on ITV1 in the UK.

Zeltia Montes' score for VILAMOR wins NYCFF award for Best Score

Vilamor sweeps the New York City International Film Festival with awards for Best Score and Best Cinematography

The New York City judges confirmed their recognition for Zeltia Montes with the Award for Best Score and for Alberto Díaz "Bertitxi" with the Award for Best Cinematography, for their work on the Spanish film Vilamor at the Closing Awards Ceremony of the NYCIFF celebrated yesterday at 8:30pm (local time) at the Angelika Film Center (18 West Houston St, New York).

"The soundtrack for Vilamor was a true challenge for me. This award proves that there is still room for originality and creativity in today's musical scores and that the only way to reconnect with the spectators' soul and to give them a unique experience in cinema is by way of innovation and risk-taking," explains Zeltia Montes.

This is the first award Zeltia Montes has received for Vilamor, however, it is the sixth that she adds to her collection working with filmmaker Ignacio Vilar. Montes, graduate of Berklee College of Music, earned five awards for Pradolongo, among which include the Gold Medal of Excellence granted by the director of the Park City Film Music Festival in Utah, USA, and the prestigious Jerry Goldsmith Award bestowed by an international jury at Ubeda Music Film International Festival (Spain).

The instruments and the melodies of the film’s music are intended to transmit the spirit of the original commune in Negueira de Muñiz (Lugo, Galicia), the original inspiration for Vilamor. The Past, Freedom, Wildlife, and Love are four of the key themes that comprise Vilamor’s musical score. The main track of the film, featured with vocals and as an instrumental version, is inspired by the poem O Sol da Liberdade (The sun of Freedom) by Manuel Antonio and is included in the Galician poetry book De Catro a Catro. The score was performed by the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and 12 other musicians and was recorded and mixed at Estudios Bruar de A Coruña (Spain).

Regarding the film's photography, "this award serves as recognition of the role that photography plays as an key element in making the story behind Vilamor so engaging to our emotions" states Alberto Díaz "Bertitxi", director of photography. After Pradolongo, this is the second film in which he has worked under the direction of Ignacio Vilar.

On account of this promising ensemble, Vilamor’s production company, Vía Láctea Filmes, is confident that these distinctions will facilitate the film’s distribution in the United States, and therefore contribute to the promotion of Galician history, language, countryside, gastronomy, and music to audiences on the other side of the Atlantic.

Vilamor received a warm reception and great acclaim following the premiere of its original version (subtitled in English) last Saturday August 11th at New York’s prestigious Tribeca Cinema 2 and narrates a love story on one of the first communes established in Europe in the 1970s.

JOHNNY GREENWOOD - "MASTER" (2012)

Got some news about one of the most awaited score and movie releases this year, thanks to a dear friend. It's all about the original score for THE MASTER, composed by Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood. He's done several film scores so far, most notably the previous collaboration with director Paul Thomas Anderson, i.e. There Will Be Blood which was gifted with an exceptional score. I personally cannot wait for this. I think Greenwood is one of the most misunderstood, but most excellent artists working for film today.

1. Overtones 2:20
2. Time Hole 1:42
3. Back Beyond 3:42
4. Get Thee Behind Me Satan – Performed by Ella Fitzgerald 3:47
5. Alethia 4:06
6. Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else but Me) – Performed by Madisen Beaty 1:36
7. Atomic Healer 1:24

BRIAN TYLER's "EXPENDABLES 2" is out now!

Numero Uno was unashamed, action packed and kinda naive, but it sure gave us a mindless couple of hours at the cinema. Score had a pumping main theme and a couple of great action cues with modern-cut orchestra and percussive rhythms so let's see what the new one will bring us, both the movie and also the score! Off to listen to my promo! In the meantime here's the LIONSGATE official press release.

LIONSGATE RECORDS RELEASES SCORE ALBUM FOR “THE EXPENDABLES 2”

ORIGINAL SCORE BY BRIAN TYLER

SANTA MONICA, CA (August 14, 2012)- LIONSGATE® (NYSE: LGF) Records is proud to announce today’s release of "The Expendables 2:  Original Motion Picture Soundtrack,” with music by Brian Tyler.   The Expendables are back for a bigger and badder installment of the box office smash hit, and renowned composer Brian Tyler again does them proud with a pulse-pounding score. The star-studded film hits theatres August 17th, and the album will be available exclusively through iTunes today, Tuesday, August 14th.

Tyler describes his experience composing for the film, “I’m so thrilled to continue the musical journey I started on the first chapter of THE EXPENDABLES. Back with a vengeance, THE EXPENDABLES 2 called for an epic approach to the music to complement the narrative.  Combining world percussion and dark electronic elements with an orchestral landscape allowed me to capture the essence of the renegade expendables spirit.”

“Brian wrote another inspired score for THE EXPENDABLES 2,” notes Tracy McKnight, Head of Film Music for Lionsgate, “He effortlessly blended electronic beats, percussion, and an orchestra to make a perfect accompaniment to this epic film.  We are so glad to be adding this album to our family of Lionsgate soundtrack releases.”

Tyler is best known for his scores for the films THE FAST & THE FURIOUS, EAGLE EYE, THE EXPENDABLES  and BATTLE: LOS ANGELES. Tyler received a nomination for Film Composer of the Year by the International Film Music Critics Association in 2011.  He was awarded the BMI Film Music award for FAST FIVE, BATTLE: LOS ANGELES and THE EXPENDABLES in 2011. Most recently, he received the nomination for the 2012 BSO Goldspirit Award for Best Composer of the Year.

About THE EXPENDABLES 2
The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal...
Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunner Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) -- with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard -- are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job.  The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries.   But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them.  Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time — five tons of weapons-grade plutonium, far more than enough to change the balance of power in the world.  But that's nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother.

That is done the Expendables way....

From Lionsgate and Millennium Films, THE EXPENDABLES 2, a film by Simon West, is the highly anticipated sequel to the summer 2010 worldwide box-office success ($274 million worldwide). The film stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, with Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, with newest cast members Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins, martial arts legends Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Chinese actress Yu Nan as the first female EXPENDABLE.   The film is directed by Simon West.  Screenplay by Richard Wenk and Sylvester Stallone. Story by Ken Kaufman & David Agosto and Richard Wenk. Based on Characters Created by David Callaham.  The film is produced by Avi Lerner, Kevin King Templeton, Danny Lerner and Les Weldon.  Jon Feltheimer, Jason Constantine, Eda Kowan, Basil Iwanyk and Guymon Casady serve as Executive Producers along with Danny Dimbort,  Boaz Davidson and Trevor Short. Lionsgate and Millennium Films present a Nu Image production.
