JOHN POWELL to score "HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON"
Dreamworks Animation has confirmed to Upcoming Film Scores that John Powell will score How to Train Your Dragon, the studio's film version of the Cressida Cowell children's book.
Powell's collaboration with Zimmer led to the big break in his career when he moved to the USA in 1997 and joined the then Media Ventures (now Remote Control Productions) organization. Since then, Powell's career has hit the top with box office successes such as "Face/Off" (1997), "Chicken Run" (2000, co-composed with Harry Gregson-Williams), "Shrek" (2001, co-composed with Harry Gregson-Williams), "The Bourne Identity" (2002), and "The Bourne Supremacy" (2004) among his list of credits. Powell has since left the Media Ventures stable and become an independent composer, with largely spectacular results: he scored the three biggest box office hits of his career (X-Men: The Last Stand, Happy Feet and Ice Age: The Meltdown) in 2006. He was nominated for Anthony Asquith Award for Film Music by BAFTA in 2002 for his work with Gregson-Williams on "Shrek". (adaptated biography based on the moviemusicuk.us original text)
As for his new assignment, "How to Train Your Dragon" , the movie is the riotous story of Hiccup's (Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, heir of the Viking chiefdom, but a boy with one very big problem: a hero he is not) quest to hunt down the fiercest dragon, bring it into submission, and-hopefully-pass his initiation. Instead, he ends up with the smallest, most ornery dragon-it's even toothless! Thus begins the hijinx of the world's most lovable, unlikely hero and a most reluctant "beast." Packed with energetic drawings and plenty of action, this boisterous tale is just right for fantasy fans or anyone with a spirit of adventure. Based on the book by Cressida Cowell.
