British film composer John Powell talks to Tommy Pearson about his hugely successful career so far.
Powell outlines his rise to the top of the industry, from his start in commercials and production, working as assistant to Patrick Doyle, to his big breaks as part of Hans Zimmer's Media Ventures in the 1990s. He talks about his work on films such as Face/Off, Chicken Run, the Bourne trilogy, United 93, Happy Feet, Alfie, The Italian Job and looks forward to his work on his latest collaboration with director Paul Greengrass, Green Zone.

Audrey Tautou (Amelie, The Da Vinci Code) stars as legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel in this biopic penned by director Anne Fontaine and screenwriter Camille Fontaine in collaboration with Christopher Hampton. Based on the Chanel biography L’Irreguliere (The Nonconformist) by author Edmonde Charles-Roux, Coco Avant Chanel features dresses from the Chanel collection. House of Chanel art director Karl Lagerfeld supervised the creation of accessories and costumes.
The sumptuous and beautifully tailored score for the film was composed by Alexandre Desplat (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and performed by The London Symphony Orchestra.
Warner Bros. will begin an international rollout of Coco Avant Chanel in France on April 22. Sony Classics will distribute in America.

MARK ISHAM - Crossing Over [CD]
New CD release for composer Mark Isham, entitled Crossing Over, a 2009 film about illegal immigrants of different nationalities struggling to achieve legal status in Los Angeles. The film deals with the border, document fraud, the asylum and green card process, work-site enforcement, naturalization, the office of counter terrorism and the clash of cultures. Crossing Over was written and directed by Wayne Kramer, himself an immigrant from South Africa, and is a remake of his 1995 short film of the same name. Kramer is editing it alongside Frank Marshall. The movie was filmed on location in Los Angeles in 2007.
The film was originally planned to have an Iranian character murder his sister in an honor killing, but the National Iranian American Council opposed this, saying that it was unrealistic and offensive, and it was re written.

MYCHAEL DANNA - Adoration (2008) [CD]
Recent work includes 500 Days of Summer (Marc Webb), The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus (Terry Gilliam) and The Time Traveler's Wife (Robert Schwentke).
He studied music composition at the University of Toronto, winning the Glenn Gould Composition Scholarship in 1985.
His latest CD release, is the score for the 2008 film, Adoration, a film directed by Danna's frequent collaborator Atom Egoyan and starring Rachel Blanchard, Scott Speedman, and Devon Bostick.
Adoration is about a young man obsessed with the idea that he is the spawn of two historical figures. It is Egoyan's first feature length film since Where The Truth Lies.
The film was first shown in May 2008 at the Cannes Film Festival. Adoration won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and was nominated for the Palme d'Or.

Featuring an ensemble cast, it stars Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson, Justin Long, Jennifer Connelly, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kevin Connolly, and Bradley Cooper; and is directed by Ken Kwapis.
