Alexandre Desplat is for the moment one of the most asked composers in the film industry. He writes music for european and american films. He got his big breakthrough in Hollywood with his score to Peter Webber's The Girl with the Pearl Earing. Since than Desplat has written music for films such as Birth, The Queen, Mr Magorium Wonder Emporium, Largo Winch, Hostage, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Lust Caution and many more. For the Curious Case of Benjamin Button he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and The Oscar for best score. His latest works are The Fantastic Mr Fox and New Moon.

Polanski’s ‘Ghost’ scored by Alexandre Desplat


R.P. Productions, the film company run by Roman Polanski, has confirmed to MovieScore Magazine that French composer Alexandre Desplat is doing the original score for Polanski’s new film, The Ghost. The film is currently in post-production, but it remains unclear if the film will be delayed or not as a result of the recent arrest of Polanski in Switzerland. According to various sources, Desplat is among the individuals who signed a petition organized by Société des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques to set the famous 76-year old director free (Polanski is imprisoned in Switzerland on a 31-year-old U.S. charge of child rape).

Desplat to receive the ‘Hollywood Award’

French composer Alexandre Desplat, who is currently scoring the eagerly anticipated Twilight sequel New Moon, will be honoured during the 13th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Awards. Desplat, who was Oscar-nominated for his score for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Queen, will receive the ‘Hollywood Film Composer Award’ during a gala ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on October 26.

Film music in Ghent: 14-17 October | The ALEXANDRE DESPLAT and the TRAFFIC QUINTET tribute concert to Femme Fatales


Marilyn Monroe, Janet Leigh, Sharon Stone, Jeanne Moreau and Nicole Kidman, these are only a few of the world-famous actresses who made film history to what it is today. Composer Alexandre Desplat and the Traffic Quintet pay a musical tribute to these mythical women called Divine Féminin. A marvellous film soundtrack night with ‘Women’ as theme, on Wednesday 14 October in Handelsbeurs Ghent.

The French composer, Alexandre Desplat, adapted music by colleague-composers like Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Georges Delerue and Gabriel Yared. The accompanying images are by film maker Ange Leccia who based himself on the American film noir and the work of the French artist Jacques Monory. An instrumental suite which Pacal Dusapin wrote for his opera Medeamaterial is also part of the concert. The music will be accompanied by images of Maria Callas in her only film role as Medea in the film of the same name by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

ALEXANDRE DESPLAT to score the sequel to "TWILIGHT", called "NEW MOON"


According to Carter Burwell, the composer who has scored the previous teenage vampire p$$n movie, Twilight, he won't be returning to the scoring duties for the 2nd movie in the franchise, but french composer of the Curious case of Benjamin Button - Alexandre Desplat, will instead.

New Moon (also known as The Twilight Saga: New Moon or Twilight 2) is an upcoming romantic-fantasy film scheduled for release on November 20, 2009. It is based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer and is the sequel to 2008's Twilight, which is based on Meyer's previous novel. Directed by Chris Weitz, the film will star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprising their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively. Melissa Rosenberg returns as the screenwriter for the film. She handed in a draft of the film script during the opening weekend of Twilight. Summit Entertainment greenlit the sequel in late November 2008, following the early success of Twilight.

Based on the Chanel biography L'Irreguliere (The Nonconformist) by author Edmonde Charles-Roux, Coco avant Chanel features dresses from the Chanel collection. House of Chanel art director Karl Lagerfeld supervised the creation of accessories and costumes.

The latest CD release by celebrated French composer Alexandre Desplat is out via Varese Sarabande.

Set in the luxurious demi-monde of pre-First World War Paris, Chéri is the story of the love affair between the beautiful retired courtesan Léa (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Chéri (Rupert Friend), the son of her old colleague and rival, Madame Peloux (Kathy Bates). Léa has educated the spoilt and callow boy in the ways of love, but after six years Madame Peloux has secretly arranged a marriage between Chéri and Edmée (Felicity Jones), daughter of another rich courtesan. As the inevitable moment of parting approaches, Léa and Chéri try to come to terms with their imminent separation, but the roots of their life of ease and pleasure reach deeper than even they imagine and they begin to understand, too late, how much they mean to one another.

ALEXANDRE DESPLAT - Cheri [CD]


Cheri is an upcoming film starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Rupert Friend, and directed by Stephen Frears. It is an adaptation of the novel by French author Colette. The film premiered at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.

Composer Alexandre Desplat composed the original score for the movie which will be released on CD via VareseSarabande.

ALEXANDRE DESPLAT's "AFTERWARDS"


The celebrated french composer of this year's beautiful score to THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, Alexandre Desplat has yet another upcoming project being released, entitled AFTERWARDS.

Directed by Gilles Bourdos, the new drama is about the life of newly divorced lawyer Nathan Del Amico who is shaken up after he meets a doctor who claims that he can sense when select people are about to die. Though he doesn't believe the doctor, events in Nathan's life slowly make him think he's not long for this world.

The movie's score is provided by the composer is featured in a MAKING OF video, linked at the original source, HERE along with info on the score that's going to be released by NAIVE RECORDS.

ALEXANDRE DESPLAT - the tree of life

Excellent news for the fans of the French film composer, Alexandre Desplat, as he's been assigned to score Terrence Malick's much-awaited new big feature for 2009, The Tree of Life.

"Alexandre Desplat, whose score for David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is one of this year's most anticipated and already considered a strong contender in the Oscar race, is doing the music for famous auteur Terrence Malick's new film, The Tree of Life, which incidentally also stars Brad Pitt (he plays the title character in Fincher's film). Desplat's involvement in The Tree of Life has been confirmed to Upcoming Film Scores by one of the film's producers. Malick is known for his strong visual sense and the pacing of his films often call for sustained and ambient musical scores. The story of the film, which also stars Sean Penn, has been closely guarded but it is said to focus on the evolution of an eleven-year old boy. Picked up for distribution by Summit Entertainment, it is slated for release in fall/winter of 2009."

ALEXANDRE DESPLAT | Largo Winch [CD]


LARGO WINCH soundtrack details.

The upcoming, much anticipated new score by the French composer Alexandre Desplat is for the comic-book French adaptation, Largo Winch the movie. The film, directed by Jérôme Salle, will be released in France on December 17, 2008.

The original score by the composer will be released by Varese Sarabande is out as an iTunes exclusive on December the 16, 2008. News about a possible CD release will be available after the film's US release in 2009.

ALEXANDRE DESPLAT - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button [CD]



The long-awaited Eric Roth fantasy-drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button tells the story of Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences and comes out Christmas 2008, bearing a stellar cast (Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett) and gifted by an original score by French composer Alexandre Desplat.

The release, which is considered as one of the most important film music releases of this year, will come out 2 days before the official release of the movie, i.e. December the 23rd via Concord Records and will feature 80 minutes of original score over a 2-CD set.
