MARC STREITENFIELD - ROBIN HOOD coming on CD

Just in from varese:

ROBIN HOOD
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Music Composed by Marc Streitenfeld

Academy Award Winner Russell Crowe
Academy Award Winner Cate Blanchett

Oscar® winner Russell Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as Robin Hood, whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. In 13th century England, Robin and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. And whether thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings will become an eternal symbol of freedom for his people.

Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Oscar® winner Cate Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.

Director Ridley Scott, whose Gladiator brought a contemporary spin to the world of ancient Rome, takes a similar turn with the Robin Hood legend, with a striking new score by Marc Streitenfeld, who also collaborated on the director’s Body Of Lies and American Gangster.

Kicking off the Summer blockbuster season, Universal Pictures will open ROBIN HOOD on over 3500 screens on May 14.

BRIAN TYLER's "FAST AND FURIOUS" [CD]

Information quoted from varesesarabande.com, concerning the forthcoming CD release of Brian Tyler's FAST AND FURIOUS (2009).

Fast & Furious is the fourth film in The Fast and the Furious film series. It is an interquel set between the second and third movies. The film is currently in post-production and is scheduled for release in the United States on April 3, 2009. The plot connects with the original film of the series from which Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster are reprising their roles.

FAST AND FURIOUS Original Motion Picture Score Music Composed by Brian Tyler

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker reteam for the ultimate chapter of the franchise built on speed — Fast and Furious. Heading back to the streets where it all began, they rejoin Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster to blast muscle, tuner and exotic cars across Los Angeles and floor through the Mexican desert in the new high-octane action-thriller.

When a crime brings them back to L.A., fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto (Diesel) reignites his feud with agent Brian O'Conner (Walker). But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmanuever him. And from convoy heists to precision tunnel crawls across international lines, two men will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of what's possible behind the wheel.

Brian Tyler, who composed the best score of the franchise for Tokyo Drift, returns to supercharge this latest model.

Universal Pictures opens Fast and Furious nationwide on April 3.

MARCO BELTRAMI's "THE KNOWING" to get a CD release

Marco Beltrami, the otherwise talented and celebrated composer, is on a down-roll lately with the quality of the projects he gets assigned to and the musical scores he delivers for, dropping dangerously with every new release through the last couple of years.

Still, the man has numerously proven very able in the past, and fans are looking forward to this new release of The Knowing, to resurrect the whilom trademarked aggressive style of the composer once again.

The movie, Knowing, is an upcoming 2009 science fiction film directed by Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage. The project was originally attached to a number of directors under Columbia Pictures, but it was placed in turnaround and eventually picked up by Escape Artists. Production was financially backed by Summit Entertainment, which will also distribute the film. Knowing was filmed in Melbourne, Australia, using various locations to represent the film's setting, Boston. The film is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2009.

And here's what the releasing label had to say about the project:

KNOWING Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Music Composed by Marco Beltrami

Nicolas Cage

Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage (National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Leaving Las Vegas) stars in KNOWING, a gripping action-thriller of global proportions about a professor who stumbles on terrifying predictions about the future — and sets out to prevent them from coming true.

In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead.

Fifty years later, a new generation of students examines the capsule’s contents and the girl’s cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Koestler. But it is Caleb’s father, professor John Koestler (Nicolas Cage), who makes the startling discovery that the encoded message predicts with pinpoint accuracy the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years. As Ted further unravels the document’s chilling secrets, he realizes the document foretells three additional events — the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve Ted and his son. When Ted’s attempts to alert the authorities fall on deaf ears, he takes it upon himself to try to prevent more destruction from taking place.

KNOWING is the latest film from acclaimed director Alex Proyas, who created the stylish sci-fi classics The Crow, I, Robot and Dark City.

The apocalyptic score is by Marco Beltrami.

Summit Entertainment opens KNOWING nationwide on March 20.

JAMES NEWTON HOWARD's "DUPLICITY" gets a cd release

James Newton Howard, one of the most successful film composers working in Hollywood today, and a man of quality and artistry, is once again busy. This time, not with a project on the levels of what he has gotten us accustomed to, but which still might prove interesting; music-wise. 'Cause the movie's verdict and the starring actors don't say much.

I present you the movie details of Duplicity, and on the meantime i am reaching for my emergency vomit-bucket!

"Oscar® winner Julia Roberts and Clive Owen reunite for "Duplicity," from writer/director Tony Gilroy (seven-time Oscar®-nominated "Michael Clayton"). In the film, they star as spies-turned-corporate operatives in the midst of a clandestine love affair. When they find themselves embroiled in a high-stakes espionage game, they discover the toughest part of the job is deciding how much to trust the one you love. CIA officer Claire Stenwick (Roberts) and MI6 agent Ray Koval (Owen) have left the world of government intelligence to cash in on the highly profitable cold war raging between two rival multinational corporations. Their mission? Secure the formula for a product that will bring a fortune to the company that patents it first. For their employers—industry titan Howard Tully (Tom Wilkinson) and buccaneer CEO Dick Garsik (Paul Giamatti)— nothing is out of bounds. But as the stakes rise, the mystery deepens and the tactics get dirtier, the trickiest secret for Claire and Ray is their growing attraction. And as they each try to stay one double-cross ahead, two career loners find their schemes endangered by the only thing they can't cheat their way out of: love."

Still, we are densely looking forward to the music that will accompany the movie and here's what the releasing label says about the SCORE CD:

Audio clips from SEAN CALLERY's "24:REDEMPTION" [CD]

A two-hour broadcast special of 24 it's what the release is about, i.e. a T.V Film based on the real-time television series "24" (2001), which chronicles a day in the life of Federal Agent Jack Bauer (Sutherland). Now, i was never a fan of either the American-cliched series nor the childishly bad synthy music that accompanied it but this has obviously gotten up to huge proportions. Below you'll find Information (that might NOT be spoiler-free) about the release and the film it accompanies, plus SOUND CLIPS from the CD release of the score through Varese Sarabande.

Click to listen to SOUND CLIPS from COLOSSEUM.DE

INFORMATION FROM COLOSSEUM.DE:

"The pulse-pounding countdown gets a jumpstart as 24: REDEMPTION, the unprecedented feature-length event premiere. 24: Redemption bridges the gap between Seasons 6 and 7, and is the first new material from 24 producers in over a year-and-a-half. A two-hour broadcast special.

Audiences last saw Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) literally standing on the precipice of a mountain cliff grappling with the reality that for all his heroics, he'd once more lost the woman he loved. 24: Redemption catches up with Bauer four years later, on the African continent, where he has sought solace in missionary work. As the action unfolds on the day of the U.S. Presidential Inauguration, he finds himself in the midst of a bloody uprising in the small fictitious African nation of Sangala, where a ruthless dictator is drafting innocent children as soldiers in his army. As the vicious warlord descends on an orphanage in search of recruits, Jack enters into a one-man crusade at the behest of a friend to rescue the children and get them to safety."

MOVIE INFO: Lisa and Julien are married and lead a happy and uneventful life with their son Oscar. Their lives are turned upside down one morning when the police arrive to arrest Lisa for murder. She is sentenced to 20 years in prison. Convinced of her innocence and faced with the failure of legal means, Julien decides to help her to escape.

Director Fred Cavayé about his work with Klaus Badelt:

“It is a fantastic opportunity to be able to work with such a big name for the first time. Klaus is a man who has worked with Terrence Malick and Michael Mann, and this is the first time that he has composed music for a French film. He liked the screenplay as soon as he read it and he accepted task of composing the soundtrack. On a personal level, it is a joy to work with him. His music is part of the intensity and the emotion of the action and takes it to a higher level. His music embodies and conveys all the implicit details which were at the fringes of the action. Suddenly, it was as if the stage directions were recreated on screen. The fact that we had so little time made us look at the heart of the matter. Klaus is a person who works without involving his ego, he dedicates himself to the film and gives everything to benefit the story. We made the recording at Abbey Road with key musicians and I confess that I felt a shiver go down my spine when I found myself confronted by forty violins playing the theme tune, there, right in front of me.”
