MOVIESCOREMEDIA releases DAVID JULYAN's "THE DESCENT 2" on Jewel Cased [CD]

MovieScore Media announces that their CD featuring "The Descent: Part 2" by David Julyan is now available for pre-order. Also, from now on all of their CDs will be jewel cases - by public demand!

Composer David Julyan returns to the claustrophobic mines of the hugely successful 2005 horror film The Descent and develops the ominous and powerful musical landscape he created for the first film. The Descent scores are both great examples of Julyan’s very ambitious and detailed meld of acoustic and electronic music and the second score is exciting in its use of modern, aleatoric techniques within the orchestra in conjunction with eerie “under-your-skin” sound design. Anyone who enjoyed the score for the first Descent movie will undoubtedly love the music for Part 2.

HANS ZIMMER's new AUDIO interview on ON THE SCORE

"In a holiday season where the phrase “game-changer” is bandied about like no one’s Hollywood business, few composers truly fit the term like Hans Zimmer. Ascending as an assistant to composer Stanley Meyers on such scores as “Moonlighting” and “My Beautiful Launderette,” the German-born Zimmer now commands the massive, art-filled domain of Remote Control in Santa Monica. In this workaholic studio, the composer and his team have created a distinctly melodic, Oscar-winning sound that’s changed the sound of movies big and small with the diversely numerous likes of “Backdraft,” “The Lion King” “The Dark Knight,” “Black Hawk Down,” “The Last Samurai” and “Spanglish.” In the collaborative process, Zimmer has helped sent out such talent into the scoring world as John Powell (“The Bourne Identity”), Trevor Rabin “(“Armageddon”), Ramin Djawadi (“Iron Man”) and Harry Gregson-Williams (“The Chronicles of Narnia”)."

JEFF AND MYCHAEL DANNA's "IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS" on [CD]

From the press release:

“In writing the score for Terry Gilliam’s Doctor Parnassus we sought to create music as timeless and archaic as the immortal Doctor himself.” - Mychael Danna

Director Terry Gilliams’ Worlds of candy canes, mile high ladders, giant cobras come and go
and transform into other wonders. To underline the dream-like states and fantastical elements
of Gilliam’s cinematography, Jeff and Mychael produced a breathtaking and surprising
post-modern score. Tangos, Waltzes, Tibetan monastic chant, Mediaeval Music and a greasy
noir-ish saxophone tune for Tom Wait's characterization of Satan all mix together with a full
orchestra and a couple of show-stopping songs.

The brothers last collaborated with Terry Gilliam on his 2005 film Tideland. As Michael Danna
remarks: “This is our second collaboration with Terry, and so we were prepared for the
madness, mayhem and just plain fun that comes with working with his boundless creative
spirit.”

MICHAEL GIACCHINO scoring animated tv christmas special, DISNEY'S "PREP AND LANDING"

Prep and Landing (Official title: Disney's Prep and Landing) is a computer animated television special, based on an idea by Chris Williams at Walt Disney Animation Studios and developed by Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers into a half-hour Christmas special for December 8th, 2009 to air at 8:30 PM ET/PT on ABC.

The film tells the story of two inept Elves, Wayne (Dave Foley) and Lanny (Derek Richardson), sent by Christmas Eve Command Center coordinator Magee (Sarah Chalke) to prepare houses for Santa's visits. The original premiere date was scheduled for December 1st; however, a speech at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York on military strategy by President Barack Obama
delayed the special's debut one week. The special will also air on ABC Family at 7 PM ET/PT December 18th as part of the network's annual "25 Days of Christmas" programming stunt, and will air on Disney Cinemagic in the UK starting December 13th 2009.
