BEAR McCREARY - BATTLESTAR GALACTICA [CD]

Bear McCreary's wonderful musical universe for the Battlestar Galactica series continues in equal qualities as what we've used to, this time with the release of his original musical accompaniment for THE PLAN/RAZOR.

From Wikipedia, we get the following info on the series: Battlestar Galactica: Razor is a television film of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica television series. It premiered in the United States on Sci Fi Channel, in Canada on the Space channel and in the United Kingdom on Sky One.

As for Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, this is a made for television movie set in the reimagined version of the fictional Battlestar Galactica universe. It consists of newly filmed material as well as a compilation of footage from the TV series and miniseries.

The story is retold with more emphasis on the Cylon perspective, and their plan to wipe out the human race. The story follows two versions of Cylon known as Cavil, with one admitting they may have made a mistake with the story being told in flashback. The "Final Five" Cylons are featured prominently.

The film premiered exclusively on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download on October 27, 2009.[1] It premiered in January 10, 2010 on Syfy.

I wrote my first cue for Battlestar Galactica: Season 4 in August, 2007 and finished scoring the series finale in February, 2009. Earlier this year, I posted a blog entry asking all you fans what you wanted on the album. And, wow, you guys certainly responded!

I kept that blog post handy while I was making my selections for the album. In fact, several of the tracks that made the final cut were ones I wouldn’t have considered were it not for an astute fan mentioning it here on this blog.

Narrowing the selections down to only two discs was difficult enough, but then my entire team and I spent months recording, mixing, editing and compiling that two years’ worth of effort into the ultimate listening experience. I even composed or expanded several pieces specifically for the album, and spent weeks compiling material for the expanded 20-page CD booklet that will accompany each album. And I spent this week at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Los Angeles, putting the finishing touches on this epic journey, in preparation for a July 21, 2009 release date!

Rest assured that these tracks are nice and long. The second disc includes virtually every second of the Daybreak score. In fact, “Assault on the Colony” alone runs OVER FIFTEEN MINUTES! It is an epic battle cue intended to sit alongside Season 1’s “Battle on the Asteroid,” Season 2’s “Prelude to War” and Season 3’s “Storming New Caprica.” (We’re tweaking the mix of “Assault” right now, as I write this. I realize it has actually become my favorite BSG action cue. I can’t wait for you guys to hear it!)

The best place to pick up copy is at one of our live “Music of Battlestar Galactica” concerts at the House of Blues in San Diego, July 23, 24 and 25. Tickets are on sale now!

Once the record comes out, I’ll write an entry going into detail about the individual tracks. But I knew you guys would want to see the track list early. A big thanks goes out to all the fans who chimed in on the blog here and helped me pick these cues.

BEAR McCREARY's "CAPRICA" [sound clips]

"About the Soundtrack: Bear McCreary's score for the Battlestar Galactica prequel show, Caprica, has been released by the good folks at La-La Land Records (a great label, in my opinion). The soundtrack, which offers 18 tracks from the Caprica pilot, marks a definite shift in the style of music that is offered by McCreary for the Galactica franchise. For this, McCreary employed a smaller chamber orchestra and used less of the exotic instruments that were so prominent during Galactica's run. As per the norm with McCreary's work, the sound quality is once again excellent as even the quieter cues are heard in great clarity and detail (a facet that is not always a guarantee with even some of the theatrical scores that are released these days). The liner notes include a note from both the director and the composer for you to check out."

Bear McCreary's Dark Void soundtrack getting separate release

Capcom senior producer Morgan Gray confirmed that Bear McCreary's incredible-so-far Dark Void soundtrack will be getting a standalone CD release.

NO! WAIT! Rein in your narrow attention span for just a bit longer. See, McCreary had been trying to get the fans he acquired during his work on Battlestar Galactica to ask Capcom to release the original Dark Void score on CD -- it seems Capcom got the message. Gray explained that Capcom had actually paid McCreary more for his Dark Void score than Galactica ever did, so why wouldn't they want to put it on CD? That's sound logic -- not to mention sound economics.

BEAR McCREARY: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles [CD]

Celebrated 30 year-old American composer Bear McCreary, the gifted mind behind such brilliant moderns scores like the BattleStar Galactica Trilogy among others, has crafted a unique original score for the Terminator TV series, Terminator: The Sarah Conor Chronicles via Fox.

There has been talk for a possible CD release of the original score for the series by Bear McCreary and with a relative post on his official blog, he sets things clear around the hot topic:

"PS: I want to address the upcoming Sarah Connor soundtrack album. I know a lot of you are asking about it, and I apologize for the lack of information. The record label and I did everything in our power to prepare the album for an October release. But, the album is currently tied up in the bureaucratic red tape that makes the entertainment business occasionally maddening. But, I promise it will come out. We’re looking at a mid-December release, before the holiday. I’ll post the official track list in the next week or so. And I can also promise it will be worth the wait."
